ABOUT ME

My interests stem from the physical and cultural environment I was raised in. For me, being a Puerto Rican raised in Chicago means I treasure communicating passion and emotion through various forms of art. Those most pertinent to me are dance, painting, and connection.

At family functions, the nights end with sweet, energized dancing. I did not truly become passionate about Latin dance until I joined a recreational group in high school. I discovered the sophistication of every movement, how to glide with intention at each beat, and how to be confident in myself. Being able to perform the choreography my team and I perfected for months was gratifying, but the nerves that came with performing gave me a new appreciation for the intimacy that comes with creating a different kind of art.

I have always had a fascination with drawing but invested more time and effort into painting as I got older. Very different from dancing, the painting I like to do requires that I slow down and reflect upon each choice I make, its relation to the message I want to convey, and how it connects to the viewer.

The art I value the most is connection. At the root of everything I’ve ever wanted to be, my desire has always been helping people. Psychology and education interest me for this reason. Being able to connect with people through my work and have a positive impact, whether it be through that connection or my work itself, is my main goal for my life.
